Blossom: A New Era of Office Design

Kai Jen Xiao's Award-Winning Office Design Revolutionizes Workspace Interactions

The unique properties of Blossom lie in its multifunctionality and diversity. No longer is an office confined to a single purpose. Instead, it is a large and open space, ripe with possibilities for interaction and collaboration. This design is a testament to the evolving nature of workspaces, where the focus is shifting from individual workstations to communal and interactive environments.

Blossom's realization technology is a marvel in itself. The main entrance ceiling sculpture, created by folding plates, forms a three-dimensional groove on the ceiling. This design element, reminiscent of an undeveloped landscape, adds depth and dimension to the space. The floor, treated with outdoor distressed floor tiles, blurs the line between the indoor and outdoor spaces, further enhancing the openness of the office.

The design interaction in Blossom promotes vitality and interaction among employees. The office seating and space are designed in such a way that they do not highlight ranks but rather encourage collaboration. This design philosophy aligns with the belief that growth in a workplace is fostered through constant interaction and teamwork.

Blossom, created in 2019 in the New Taipei City Linkou District, Taiwan, faced several design challenges. Creating a multi-variable space that can be flexibly adjusted under unclear function was one of them. The designer also had to draw the line between strong sunlight and artificial lighting, a challenge that was successfully overcome.

Despite being an office space, Blossom uses a bold combination of different materials. The green planting structure provides a sense of perspective during the day, and the large and open space creates different possibilities for interaction. The vitality of the space, however, still depends on its inhabitants. With Blossom, Kai Jen Xiao has truly redefined the concept of an office, making it a place where creativity and collaboration can flourish.
